RAWALPINDI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that the entire nation greatly values the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces in saving the motherland from terrorists.
The premier was speaking at a briefing given to him by the top military leadership at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi over security situation and matters relating to the defence.
Sharif said the armed forces have demonstrated their capabilities and rendered great humanitarian services during war and peace time. He lauded that our forces are fully equipped with great spirit of martyrdom and patriotism and do not hesitate to render any sacrifice to protect the citizens from not only foreign aggression‚ but also the terrorists.
The prime minister assured fully support to the armed forces to further enhance their capabilities‚ saying strong defence is imperative for progress and prosperity of the country.
Earlier‚ the prime minister arrived at the military headquarters on first visit since he assumed charge of his office. He was accompanied by interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and finance minister Ishaq Dar.
The premier was accorded guard of honour by smartly turned contingent of Pakistan Army on his arrival at the GHQ where he laid floral wreath on the monument of martyrs alongside army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
