ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the Interior Division to take effective and immediate steps for the provision of foolproof security to the former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Shahbaz Sharif said that peaceful public meetings are part of democracy and instructed that no hurdle should be created in this regard.
His directives were issued on Thursday after receiving reports of security threat to the former prime minister.
The prime minister directed the Minister for Interior Rana Sanauallah Khan to personally monitor the security arrangements.
In line with the directives of the prime minister, the interior minister has sent emergency letters to Home Secretaries of all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Chief Commissioner and Inspector General of Islamabad Police to ensure strict security of Imran Khan.
The interior ministry has also directed officials concerned to ensure measures including bomb disposal at Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence.
It has also warned that no negligence or lapse in the security of Imran Khan during his rallies and public gatherings will be tolerated.
