ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to express solidarity and grief over human and material losses caused by a devastating earthquake.

“Just spoke to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to express our profound condolences & prayers at the human & material losses in the earthquake,” Shahbaz Sharif told on Twitter on Monday.

The prime minister told the Turkish president that Pakistan would soon send a plane full of medicines, relief goods and other essentials to Türkiye.

Shahbaz Sharif further apprised that Pakistan was also sending teams of doctors, paramedics, and rescue workers to Türkiye today to help with the ongoing rescue efforts.

“Pakistan would do anything to help their Turkish brothers & sisters during this challenging time,” the prime minister said.

Earlier in the morning, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 17.9 kilometers (11 miles) near the Gaziantep City, killing more than 2,000 people and injuring over 5,000  in Türkiye.

In Türkiye, over 3,200 buildings were destroyed after the earthquake. Besides, more than 850 people also lost their lives in Syria.
