SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday attended the annual Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State at the Congress Centre in Samarkand.
Upon his arrival at the Congress Centre, the Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev formally welcomed Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The leaders of SCO Members and Observer States as well as Heads of SCO Organizations and other special guests were attending the meeting.
In the Summit, the SCO leaders were deliberating deliberate on important global and regional issues including climate change, food security energy security, and sustainable supply chains.
They would also approve agreements and documents that would chart the future direction of cooperation among SCO Member States.

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif spent a productive day in Samarkand and had several political engagements.
The prime minister held sideline meetings with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, and President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi.
It was a long but productive day in Samarkand. In my meetings with leaders of our friendly countries, we agreed on enhancing trade & investment. I explained the flood ravages due to climate change. Food & energy shortages present a real challenge to our shared development agenda.

Just after reaching the Samarkand, Shahbaz Sharif also visited the Hazrat Khizar Complex and paid respects at the Mausoleum of Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan’s first President.
