ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed grief and sorrow over the death of Umrah pilgrims in a bus accident in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement on Tuesday, the prime minister commiserated with the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls.

On Monday, at least 20 Umrah pilgrims were killed and 29 injured in a horrific bus crash in the southwest of the Saudi Kingdom.

The Saudi authorities said that the passenger bus crashed into a bridge overturned, and caught fire between the City of Abha and the Muhayil Asir governorate.

The accident occurred as a result of a brake failure.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has issued new guidelines for pilgrims wishing to perform Umrah during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The Ministry reiterated recently that pilgrims are no longer allowed to repeat Umrah and can only perform it once during the Holy Month of fasting.

This move is to ensure that all pilgrims who wish to perform Umrah during Ramadan have the opportunity to do so with ease and comfort.
