The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have submitted two resolutions in the Lower House, seeking that the house declare seats of 28 PTI members who remained absent for 40 consecutive days.

Under clause (2) of Article 64 of the Constitution, a member may be declared de-seated if without leave of the house, he remains absent for 40 consecutive days of the assembly’s sittings.

In his address at the National Assembly on Monday evening, the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar appealed to both the JUI-F and the MQM to withdraw their motions as requested to them by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Ishaq Dar said that if voting is done tomorrow on the motion, the PML-N would oppose them.

The minister expressed the confidence that JUI-F being an ally of the federal government would withdraw its motion. He also appealed to the MQM to withdraw its motions so that the PTI is allowed to play its parliamentary role.

The finance minister said that the democratic process should move ahead and all political parties should work together on the national issues.
