Kiev: Ukraine and Poland are shocked over the demand raised by Hungarian Prime Minister Orban about the need of autonomy for Hungarians Transcarpathian region of Ukraine. Polish Prime Minister will raise this issue during the next meeting with Orban, to be held on May 15 (tomorrow) in Bratislava at the summit GLOBSEC, which also will participate by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatsenyuk.

Ukraine is already facing rapid slicing of its eastern region by Russian speaking population that is taking autonomy from Ukraine by holding referendums.

While supporting pro-west Ukrainian government, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has come to support Ukraine by criticizing the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s statement on the need for autonomy for Hungarians Transcarpathian region of Ukraine.

Polish media reported that PM Tusk was shocked also over this development because Transcarpathian region of Ukraine is bordering Poland and any referendum in this area can extremely harm Poland also.

“Aware of the concern for fellow citizens outside their own state premier Orban, we must also pay attention to in any way – it was such an intention or not – do not support the actions of the separatists, backed by Russia, and the apparent purpose of which is to destroy the Ukrainian state,” – said Tusk.

He called demand for autonomy for Hungarians Transcarpathian region of Ukraine as “unfortunate” and said Orban demand was “wrong place at the wrong time.” Tusk said that Poland plans to influence their neighboring countries so that their actions do not hurt the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister said that he plans to publicly talk about it during the next meeting with Orban, to be held May 15 in Bratislava at the summit GLOBSEC, which also will participate Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatsenyuk.

Yesterday the Prime Minister Orban of Hungary in the first speech of his third term demanded the need for autonomous and dual citizenship for Hungarians living in neighboring countries, particularly in Ukraine.

In response, Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the statement concerned Orban and demanded an official explanation about this. Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Marton said that the statement by the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban does not contain any new elements in diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Hungary for the past 25 years.
