ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have arrested a member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) involved in the murder of Chaudhry Zulfiqar, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) special prosecutor in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, the Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad informed the Supreme Court on Friday.

The FIA prosecutor was killed in Islamabad last month after two unknown assailants on motorcycle fired on him in Islamabad’s G-9 area as he was driving to the next hearing in the murder case of the former prime minister.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry was hearing the suo moto case for the arrest of the killer of former Attorney General Sardar Muhammad Khan.

During proceedings the IGP informed the court that the accused Abdullah opened fire on Chaudhry Zulfiqar’s car and the FC Guard in the car opened retaliatory fire. Abdullah was injured in the firing and dropped his mobile and pistol while his accomplishes helped him flee from the scene in a taxi.

The taxi was later recovered from Sabzi Mandi (Vegetable Market). IGP told the apex court that fingerprints from the taxi matched Abdullah’s.

Abdullah was arrested from a hospital where he had been receiving treatment for his bullet wounds and it was discovered that is the son of a former colonel who was court martialed and sentenced to six years.
