LAHORE, Pakistan: The city police have put in place foolproof security arrangements for the participants in processions of 9th and 10th Muharram-ul-Haram.

According to police, heavy contingent of police would be deployed at sensitive Majalis, processions and Imambargahs, whereas four-tier cordon in and around venues of Majalis and processions including the main procession, would be ensured.

A control room has also been established to monitor all the Majalis and processions.

Also, more than 270 CCTV cameras would be set up at the route of main procession to monitor security and maintain law and order in city.

All senior police officers including CCPO Lahore Amin Wains and DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf would personally monitor security arrangements to ensure peace and tranquility.

The route of central procession would be protected through barbed wire and containers and the mourners would be allowed to enter the procession after a thorough checking and scanning by walk-through gates while police snipers would be posted at the rooftops of buildings along the procession route.

The officials of Dolphin squad and Quick Response Force (QRF) would patrol around the sensitive areas.

All the divisional SPs have been directed to discuss the security plan with the members of peace committees in their respective jurisdictions.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 has also cancelled the leaves of rescuers to ensure preparedness for Muharram-ul-Haram.

According to the Lahore emergency plan, 31 ambulances, 15 fire vehicles, five rescue vehicles, water rescue teams and rescuers on different 50 mobile posts have been deployed to provide emergency cover to all mourning processions.

Moreover, additional rescue teams would remain on stand-by position and could be called if needed in case of any untoward incident.

As per plan, all mobile posts and ambulances with medical kits would be moving along with the processions to provide mourners with immediate medical treatment.

Emergency Officers including trained doctors would supervise the arrangements.
