KARACHI, Pakistan: The number of polio cases surfaced across the country this year has reach 19 after one more case of the crippling disease emerged in Sindh on Saturday.
The health department officials said that the polio virus was found in a resident of Dadu district of the southern province.
Last year, Pakistan witnessed 296 polio cases, the highest number of such cases reported in the country since 1998.
Three-day anti-polio drive to begin from Monday across country
Meanwhile, a three-day polio vaccination campaign is set to begin across the country from Monday during which about 35.5 million children up to the age of five years will be administered anti polio drops, according to the prime minister’s polio monitoring and coordination cell.
It said that about 80,000 teams will administer polio drops to the children at their doorsteps. It said that about 9,000 teams will be deputed at fixed centers while 4,000 teams will cover points for the vaccination of children in transit.
The district authorities have been asked to ensure deployment of vaccination teams at each health facility.
