ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Three-day polio vaccination campaign has been started in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) on Wednesday.
The KPK Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) said that 5,643,000 children below the age of five years in the province will be administered polio drops during the campaign. Some 20,000 polio teams will take part in the door to door campaign to ensure provision of polio drops to every child.
A target of administering polio drops to over a million children in FATA has also been set for the campaign. Over 4,000 teams will participate in the campaign.
The FATA EOC said the drive has been postponed to November 28 in Mehsud areas of South Waziristan Agency due to the ongoing repatriation process of the internally displaced persons (IDPs). Police will protect the polio teams in KPK while Army, Frontier Corps (FC) and Levies personnel will provide security to polio teams in FATA.
Eight polio cases have been reported in KPK and two in FATA this year.
