Lahore, Pakistan: Over 105.95 million registered voters of Pakistan are polling their votes in General Elections 2018 to elect new Parliament today in Pakistan.
Thousands of voters faced unusual circumstances when they went to cast their vote to polling stations and were told that their votes were shifted to somewhere else last night. FBR Building in Karachi had polling booths for over 19,000 voters but voters were told that their polling stations have been shifted somewhere else.
Similar news were also received from different parts of the country.
General Elections 2018 are the 11th General Election being held in Pakistan today (July 25).
Slow-paced balloting started at 8 am and will continue till 6 pm. General Elections 2018 are largest general elections ever held in Pakistan by the volume of voters and by arrangements. ECP has placed 17,007 polling stations as “highly sensitive”. Pakistan Army is helping Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in manning the process. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Parliamentarians, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are main contenders while Awami National Party, Balochistan Awami Party and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) are also actively contesting General Elections 2018
105.95 million registered voters include 59.22 million male voters and 46.73 million female voters.
As many as 85,058 polling stations having 244,687 polling booths have been placed manned by 819,119 polling staff.
As many as 12,570 candidates are contesting for a total of 849 seats of national and provincial assemblies in the general election.
Starting from the corridors of courts, going through rough phase of accusations and counter attacks, election process of Pakistan would be concluded and new parliament would be elected.
Pre-poll surveys and experts are indicating that Pakistan will vote for hung parliament as PMLN voters have yet not lost their hope and actively contesting elections today and look fully charged to fight elections despite unfavourable circumstances they have been facing. Former Prime Minister and leader of PMLN Nawaz Sharif was convicted and jailed along with his daughter by a NAB court, several potential candidates of PMLN were either jailed or went out of election process due to cases against them.
Voters will elect 270 members of National Assembly as elections are postponed at two constituencies.
It may be mentioned that Pakistan elects its parliament after five years and last general elections were held in May 2013.
