ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The polling to elect four Senators from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) would be held on March 20, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The ECP said that the polling will be held from 09:00 am to 04:00 pm at the Parliament House in Islamabad, adding that 36 candidates would contest the four seats.
The polling for FATA was scheduled on March 5; however, later it was postponed due to the confusion with regards to the presidential ordinance issued hours before the Senate elections.
The Senate elections were held on March 5 at the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies to fill 48 vacant seats of Senate as four Senators had already been elected unopposed from Sindh.
On March 12, as many as 47 newly elected Senators took oath of their office during the Senate’s first session of 13th parliamentary year in Islamabad.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Mian Raza Rabbani was elected unopposed as the Senate Chairman while the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F)’s Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri was elected as the Deputy Chairman Senate.
