ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday convened an emergency meeting and summoned officials of the Water and Power Ministry and power generation companies for a briefing over massive power breakdown which plunged the country into darkness last night, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
The sources said that electricity was restored in almost all cities as Secretary of Water and Power apologized to the nation and vowed to conduct a transparent enquiry into the breakdown.
The secretary said the prime minister took serious notice of the breakdown and ordered an inquiry into it, adding that he and WAPDA authorities would brief the PM over last night’s major breakdown.
Meanwhile, ministry of water and power set up a four-member enquiry committee on rare prolonged countrywide power breakdown since Sunday night till this morning.
According to reports, member Wapda, Qasim Khan would be heading the committee, while Director Technical, NTDC (power), Chief Engineer System Protection and Joint Secretary (power) would be the members of the committee, water and power ministry told.
The committee would present its enquiry report within seven days, said the sources.
