ISAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Khusro Bakhtiar has said that there is a huge potential for private and foreign direct investment in the power value chain including generation, transmission and distribution.
In a meeting with the Vice Chief Economist Shanghai Electric Power Mingwei Shi who along with a delegation met him in Islamabad on Thursday, the minister said that the government is committed to resolve the issues affecting the viability of power sector.
The Member Energy, Member Private Sector and Senior Officials of the Ministry were also present in the meeting.

Khusro Bakhtiar highlighted that under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework, a number of energy projects are being executed and are in the pipeline.
Mingwei Shi said that the Shanghai Electric’s investment in purchasing K-electric is only the beginning and the company is interested to further expand its investment portfolio in power sector of Pakistan.
The minister was briefed about the latest status and issues in finalizing the transaction for purchase of KES power.
Mingwei Shi requested the minister to facilitate the process for early completion of transaction.
