ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The opposition alliance on Monday voiced resentment over Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) after the latter stuck to Aitzaz Ahsan as the presidential nominee, dealing another blow to efforts to keep the grand opposition alliance intact.
The opposition nominated Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman as its nominee today for the upcoming presidential election after all efforts went in vain to break a standoff between PPP and other opposition allies over nominating an unanimous Presidential Candidate.
Talking to media representative in Islamabad, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal said that I hope PPP will save the votes of the opposition from division.
Ahsan Iqbal said that we are ready to reach a consensus over any name for presidential election except Aitzaz Ahsan. He said that despite having senior politicians, PPP has nominated Aitzaz Ahsan.
The National Party leader Hasil Khan Bizenjo said that we had come together to form a strong opposition. He said that in the first phase, decision was made that the opposition candidate for premiership will be from PML-N.
Hasil Bizenjo said that PPP also provided Shahbaz Sharif’s name; however, PPP’s back out has shaken the opposition.
The JUI-F leader Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said that we will again approach the PPP and appeal it to support the candidature of Maulana Fazlur Rehman as division of opposition’s votes will give a walkover to the PTI in the presidential election.
Ghafoor Haideri said that we can win the presidential election provided that PPP also join hands with the opposition’s alliance.
