Earlier in December 2017, Praveen Singh along with other activists were apprehended by the Indian police from Gairsain where they were sitting on a hunger strike, seeking Gairsain as Uttarakhand’s Permanent Capital, a Department for prohibition of liquor in the State, and declaration of Right to Employment a Fundamental Right.

Praveen Singh said that we had agitated through November 21 Padyatra, again from December 7 a hunger strike in Gairsain and then after police torture, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister sent the Education Minister Sh. Arvind Pandey to get the hunger strike ended and consequently that hunger strike ended with the condition that the current State government would declare Gairsain a Permanent Capital of Uttarakhand before the commencement of Summer Session in Vidhan Sabha and would take steps to check alcohol uses in Uttarakhand; otherwise, with the commencement of Summer Session, hunger strikes, road jam and protest march would resume.

“We are happy to inform that because of God grace this movement once again been resurrected and made the people of Uttarakhand awaken.
