ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: National Voters Day will be celebrated across Pakistan on December 7, for which all preparations have been completed, said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday.

In a statement, the ECP said that the main event of National Voters day will be held at President House in Islamabad on Thursday at 11 am. President Mamnoon Hussain will be Chief Guest of the ceremony.

National Voters Day is annually celebrated on December 7 across the Country, aimed at to create awareness among the people about their right to vote.

In order to highlight the importance of vote, a number of special programmes including seminars, debates, walks and mass awareness campaign would be organized at federal, provincial, district and union council levels.

Meanwhile, the ECP has issued latest voters’ statistics on its website, according to which, a total number of registered voters in Pakistan are 97,022,591. According to the ECP, there are 54,598,173 male voters – 56.27 percent of total voters – and 42,424,418 female voters – 43.72 percent of total voters – in the Country.

The gap between male and female voters, as per the voters’ statistics, has now gone up to 12.17 million from 10.97 million in March 2013.

Earlier on Monday, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza launched a Countrywide ‘Female National Identity Card (NIC) and voter registration campaign’ to target unregistered women in 79 districts throughout the Country, aimed at to decrease gap between male and female registered voters in the electoral rolls.

While addressing the launching ceremony, the CEC said that through this campaign which would continue till April 2018, unregistered women would be mobilized and facilitated to acquire national identity card so that they could be added in the electoral rolls.

The CEC said that this campaign was a collaborative efforts of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), ECP and civil society organizations working at grass root level.
