ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi has called for increasing forestation in the Country so as to cope with the harmful effects of climate change and global warming.
In a briefing given by the Senior Vice President of the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) Syed Zaheer Mehdi on Miyawaki Forest at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Tuesday, the president emphasized the need for enhanced tree plantation to reduce pollution and improve air quality in urban areas.
Briefing on the Miyawaki tree plantation technique and highlighting its advantages, Syed Zaheer Mehdi said that its growth is 10 times faster and 30 times denser than normal trees.
The senior vice president SECMC said that his organization would plant 4,000 saplings in the area of Aiwan-e-Sadr.
In his remarks, the president said that the government is making serious efforts to enhance forest coverage by undertaking a plantation drive to plant 10 billion trees in the Country.
President Arif Alvi said that the Miyawaki forest is best suited for Pakistan as its trees grow faster and denser which would enormously help reduce pollution in the Country.
The president said that modern plantation techniques could help provide healthier environment to the residents of urban centres and Miyawaki forest would greatly help in this regard.
President Arif Alvi also called for maximizing the utilization of all available resources and spaces in urban areas to achieve a “Clean and Green” Pakistan.
