ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr Arif Alvi has underlined the need to boost trade, economic and cultural relations with the brotherly Country of Iraq.

Talking to Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Iraq Ahmed Amjad Ali who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Monday, the president said that the two Countries have huge potential to increase trade and economic cooperation for their mutual benefit.

While highlighting Pakistan’s increased focus on promoting regional connectivity, the president said that Pakistan’s policy has shifted from geopolitics to geoeconomics and Pakistan is making earnest efforts to increase trade and economic relations with regional Countries.

The president asked the ambassador-designate to further promote trade and cultural ties with Iraq by focusing on the establishment of air and sea linkages between the two countries.

President Arif Alvi emphasized that defense cooperation between the two Countries needs to be further cemented and also asked the envoy to work for the facilitation and welfare of the Pakistani diaspora and Zaireen in Iraq and extend them all possible support and services.

The president congratulated the envoy on his appointment as Pakistan’s ambassador to Iraq and expressed the hope that he would play his role to further promote bilateral ties between the two Countries.
