ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain has stressed the need on further promoting bilateral relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, and called for increasing bilateral trade volume to this end.

While talking to Ambassador-designate of Pakistan to Uzbekistan Dr. Irfan Yusuf Shami at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Wednesday, the president said that Uzbekistan is an important Central Asian country and Pakistan greatly values its relations with it.

The president said that focus should be paid on completing road links and gas pipeline between Pakistan and Uzbekistan to resolve energy crisis in Pakistan. He urged the ambassador-designate to devise a strategy to benefit from the experiences of Uzbekistan in the fields of agriculture and transport.

President Mamnoon advised the ambassador-designate to set up display centres in Uzbekistan to effectively market Pakistani products to increase the country’s exports and directed to seek cooperation of Trade Development Authority to use information technology for this purpose.

The president also called for enhancing contacts between the universities and chambers of commerce of both countries to further bilateral cooperation.

The ambassador-designate of Pakistan to Uzbekistan Dr. Irfan Yusuf Shami said that he will utilize his capabilities to further strengthen relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan in the light of his experiences.
