ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain Thursday said that Brunei Darussalam was a close and trusted friend of Pakistan and emphasized the need to work with dedication to further deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Talking to Pakistan’s High Commissioner-designate to Brunei Darussalam Major General (retd) Tariq Rashid Khan who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr here, the president urged the latter to play role in further strengthening relations with Brunei.

He said that immense opportunities for investment in Pakistan and Brunei existed from which entrepreneurs of both countries should benefit. Pakistan can provide manpower to Brunei to meet its requirements, he added.

President Mamnoon called for focusing on sectors where investment could be made between the two countries particularly in the fields of education, infrastructure and energy.

He underlined that enhancement of trade between the two countries would further cement bilateral cooperation and stressed on increasing cooperation in the defence sector between the two countries.

The president stated that direct air links between Pakistan and Brunei should be established to promote business activities between the two countries.

President Mamnoon Hussain emphasized the need on establishing high level parliamentary and people to people contacts between the two countries.

He said that it was the responsibility of our diplomats to play an effective role in promoting soft image of Pakistan.

He congratulated Major General (retd) Tariq Rashid Khan on being appointed Pakistan’s high commissioner to Brunei and hoped that he would play his part in further strengthening relations between Pakistan and Brunei.
