ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned the joint sitting of the Parliament on Monday at 11:00 am in order to discuss the emerging situation in Yemen.
The session has been convened on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while the decision to this effect was taken at a high-level consultative meeting presided over by the prime minister in Islamabad on Thursday.
The meeting held threadbare discussion on the evolving situation in Yemen, and affirmed that Pakistan’s national interest will remain the guiding principle of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
It reaffirmed that any violation of Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity will evoke a strong response from Pakistan.
Parliament to decide about Pakistan’s role in Yemen conflict: Khawaja Asif
Meanwhile, in an interview the defence minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that the Parliament would decide as to what role Pakistan should play in the Yemen conflict.
The defence minister, who led a Pakistan delegation for a recent two-day visit to Riyadh to have talks with the Saudi officials on the Middle East situation, said that all the parliamentary parties would be briefed about the Yemen issue during the upcoming joint session of the parliament.
The minister said that the government would accept and honour the decision taken by the Parliament in this regard. He said that Pakistan wants to keep intact the unity of Muslim Ummah.
