ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday inaugurated the Matiari-Lahore 600 KV transmission line, an important project of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The 886-kilometer long Matiari-Lahore Transmission Line has the capacity to carry 4,000 megawatts of electricity and 1,973 towers have been constructed for this purpose.

The testing of the project has been completed in three phases and it is ready for regular electricity transmission.

While addressing a ceremony held in Islamabad in connection with the inauguration of Matiari to Lahore 600 KV Transmission Line completed under the umbrella of multi-billion dollars CPEC, Prime Minister Imran Khan termed it a state-of-the-art project which will help reduce power losses.

The prime minister vowed to accelerate the pace of work on projects being executed under the CPEC project. He said that more investment will be made in the transmission line projects to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the consumers.

In his remarks, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong said that Matiari-Lahore Transmission Line will realize the safety and reliability of the grid system, optimize energy distribution of the entire Country and lower the electricity cost.

The Chinese ambassador said that the CPEC up to now has brought investment of US$ 25.4 billion and created 75,000 job opportunities. He said that the project has made a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of Pakistan.
