ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has said that the promotion of the digital economy is of extreme importance for Pakistan to move forward on the path of progress and development.
Digital Economy’s importance
In his address at a conference titled Sustainable Development in a Digital Society organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) in Islamabad on Tuesday, the minister said that the government is striving to ensure efficient delivery of services to the people by using the latest technology.

Role of the Universal Service Fund
Asad Umar pointed out that efforts have also been made to bridge the digital divide between the urban centers and the remote areas. In this regard, he added that the Universal Service Fund has played an important role in development of telecommunication services in unserved and underserved areas of the country.
Technology to be used for Revenue generation
The minister pointed out that revenue generation and documentation of economy has been a major challenge for the Country and initiatives have been taken to use the technology to achieve this target.
