Liberty 2ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The civil society activists continue to hold protest against the Lal Masjid’s Chief Cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz for his support for the Taliban militants.

The demonstrations started taking place against the cleric after he refused to condemn the deadly terror attack on an army-run school in Peshawar.

Nearly 150 persons mostly school children lost their lives in the attack carried out by the militants wearing the Frontier Corps (FC) personnel uniform on December 16.

“It is inappropriate to condemn one incident and remain silent on the other,” Maulana Abdul Aziz said while talking to a television channel following the Peshawar incident.Liberty Lahore

The sources said that the civil society activists are holding demonstrations at Aabpara Police Station in Islamabad as well as at Lahore Liberty Chowk on Monday evening.

On Friday night, a first information report was also registered against Lal Masjid’s chief cleric at Aabpara Police Station upon unremitting pressure exerted from protesting civil society.

On the other hand, in a press conference held in Islamabad on Sunday, the federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan informed media that the security had been withdrawn from Maulana Abdul Aziz and he was not a government cleric.

The interior minister said that nobody would be allowed to challenge writ of the state.
