ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has decided to increase its capacity to accommodate tourists by three fold gradually, a senior official said Thursday.
“All out efforts are being made to attract a maximum number of local as well as foreign tourists to promote the country’s tourism industry,” he said while talking to APP.
PTDC, he said, was taking concrete steps to promote tourism in the country and has decided to increase the number of rooms from 39,887 to around 150,000 at its hotels and motels across the country, keeping view the soaring number of tourists.
Some 1.13 million people had visited different tourist spots till November 11, 2016 as compared to 965,000 and 566,000 in 2014 and 2013 respectively, he added.
The number of tourists, he said, started increasing since 2013 as the present government was trying to provide better facilities to them.
Unfortunately, he said, no proper attention was given to the tourism sector during previous regime, he added.
He said work was underway to upgrade the existing tourist resorts while corporation was also searching for sites to develop new hill stations.
