PoliticsPTI to introduce new police act in KPK soon: Imran Khan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is working on a bill to make provincial police force free from political interference and government’s control besides making it accountable before the masses.

Flanked by Chief Minister KPK Pervez Khattak and other provincial cabinet members, PTI Chief Imran Khan told a press conference that the provincial government is working on new police act to institutionalize the police department.

Imran said that he had chaired a meeting to review implementation of PTI’s manifesto in the province and discussed various bills including Whistle Blower bill, Conflict of Interest bill and Ehtesaab Commission amendment bill.

Referring to Ehtesaab Commission, he recalled that former Director General Ehtesaab Commission Gen (Retd) Hamid gave his resignation on the grounds that there were conflict of powers between functioning of the DG and working of Ehtesaab Commission.

He said that the amendment bill would clearly elaborate jurisdiction of the DG and working of Ehtesaab Commission besides making it autonomous and free from the government’s control.

He said that a commission of senior lawyers has conducted deliberations on the amendment bill and presented their recommendations for incorporation in Ehtesaab Commission amendment bill.

Imran said that the conflict of interest bill is being introduced to stop the public representatives from using tax money for their personal interest. Similarly, he said Whistle Blower bill is being proposed to curb white collar crimes.

To a question on Panama leaks, Imran said he would talk on the issue in the assembly, however, he said a number of documents are yet to be leaked.
