LAHORE, Pakistan: The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Shahzad Waseem has been elected as the Senator by securing 181 votes in the Senate by-election held at the Punjab Assembly in Lahore on Wednesday.
His rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan succeeded to bag 169 votes.
A total of 351 votes were cast in the House, out of which one was rejected.
Dr. Shahzad Waseem will replace Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar in Senate
The seat had become vacant after PTI’s Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar resigned as the Senator and assumed the Office of the Governor Punjab on September 5, 2018.

The polling in the Senate by-election continued in the provincial assembly from 0900 hours to 1600 hours without any break. The Provincial Election Commissioner acted as the Presiding Officer.
In his remarks after being elected as the Senator, Shahzad Waseem paid gratitude to the Chairman PTI Imran Khan and also those lawmakers who voted him.
