Following Story was published prior to the beginning of Day 3 of first Test Match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.
So far the first Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka looks even as Home Side succeeded to end the Second Day on 64 runs with all 10 wickets remaining after Sri Lanka helped by Dinesh Chandimal’s 155 runs put a decent 419 total in first innings.Â
Both the Pakistani Openers Shan Masood and Sami Aslam returned to the pavilion unbeaten for 30 and 31 runs respectively when Stumps were drawn at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday evening.
The Opening Pair of Shan Masood and Sami Aslam was Pakistan’s 16th in 41 Tests having been played by the Side in last five years.
Earlier in the morning, Sri Lanka resumed their first innings at 227 for 4 with Dinesh Chandimal and Niroshan Dickwella at the crease. At 295, Dickwella was bowled by Hasan Ali on 83, breaking the 134-run partnership.
His successor Dilruwan Perera also assisted Captain Dinesh Chandimal to steer the innings with 92 runs partnership for sixth wicket but then fell prey to debutant Haris Sohail on 33.
After the departure of Perera, no Sri Lankan batsman managed to occupy the crease and continued to lose their wickets at brief intervals. However Chandimal remained firm and didn’t surrender to Pakistani bowlers till the end. Dinesh Chandimal scored unbeaten 155 runs with 14 fours.
Dimuth Karunaratne and Niroshan Dickwella were the other two top scorers for Sri Lanka in first innings with 93 and 83 runs respectively.
Muhammad Abbas and Yasir Shah grabbed 3 wickets each for Pakistan, Hasan Ali picked up 2 while 1 wicket went into Haris Sohail’s bowling account.
The two Test match series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will conclude on October 10, considering the second day-night Test at Dubai International Cricket Stadium goes into the 5th day.
