LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that the provincial government wanted to promote economic cooperation with Tatarstan, a semi-autonomous Republic within Russia.

While addressing the Punjab-Tatarstan Business Forum in Lahore, Shahbaz Sharif assured to provide full protection to investors of Tatarstan, saying they would also own hundred percent of their investment.

Shahbaz Sharif said that there were vast potential for promotion of tourism in Pakistan, especially in Punjab and we would like to benefit from the expertise of Tatarstan in this regard.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab had very strong infrastructure which can support all the investment activities and joint ventures.

The Punjab Chief Minister said the landmark China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Project could create a linkage between Pakistan and Tatarstan. He said that $36 billion were being spent on energy projects under the CPEC that would end load-shedding from the Country by the end of current year or early next year. 

Earlier, the Punjab Chief Minister and President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting and discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral relations and promotion of cooperation in different sectors.

The Chief Minister hoped that the visit of the distinguished guest would promote bilateral relations between the two countries.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Tatarstan in 1999 when Rustam Minnikhanov was Prime Minister.

The President of Tatarstan called for promoting active collaboration between the two Countries in various fields.
