ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research Syed Fakhar Imam has said that quality seed can help in increasing production of wheat.
While attending the meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on NFSR held at PARC in Islamabad on Wednesday, Syed Fakhar Imam apprised the participants about the working of his ministry and said that the Ministry of Food Security and Research work on policymaking.
The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan.
Syed Fakhar Imam said that the ministry and provinces after 18th amendments should ensure coordination and harmony among provinces on matters pertaining to agriculture.
The federal minister said that Pink bull worms and whitefly are a big pest of cotton. “We also need to work on pesticides,” he said.
The minister said that we will evaluate 40 percent pure cotton seed through ginning, adding that the aim is to increase cotton production.
The federal minister for food security further said that better seeds are needed to increase wheat production.
“We are trying to evaluate four lakh quality wheat seeds and will try to give them to the farmer for increasing production,” he said.
The Chairman Kissan Ittehad Tariq Ashfaq asked that tube-well electricity bills should be simplified.
Tariq Ashfaq also asked to resolve the issue of arrears of electricity bills of farmers. He asked for quality seeds, easy agri loans, and crop insurance.
