ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a discussion with the Chairman Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives Gregory Weldon Meeks on Thursday via video link.

During the conversation, they exchanged views on Pakistan-US bilateral relations, the rising trend of Islamophobia, and important regional and global issues.

In his remarks, Qureshi said that Pakistan and the United States have a long-standing bilateral relationship, and have similar views on peace in the region.

The foreign minister said that Pakistan is desirous of peace in the region including in Afghanistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan has shifted its focus on geo-economic priorities. He said that peace in Afghanistan is inevitable for the economic development of Pakistan and the region. He also emphasized on ensuring peace to promote regional connectivity.

Qureshi also underlined the significance of close cooperation between Pakistan and the US for a better outcome aimed at lasting peace in the region.

The foreign minister also apprised the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee of Pakistan’s concern over the rising tendency of Islamophobia across the globe.

The foreign minister said that the international community must work together to address Islamophobia and ensure “peaceful coexistence.”

The Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Gregory Weldon said that Pakistan is an important Country in the region. He lauded Pakistan’s efforts for regional peace and stability.
