PHNOM PENH, Cambodia: The Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani has said it is important for Pakistan and Cambodia to enhance their bilateral economic and trade relations.

In a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Sen at Peace Palace in Phnom Penh where he was to attend the first Executive Council Meeting of the Asia Parliamentary Assembly (APA), Raza Rabbani said Pakistan-Cambodia had traditionally enjoyed long friendly relations.

Rabbani said it was heartening to know that Cambodia was availing the capacity building courses in diplomacy and professional disciplines offered by the Government of Pakistan.Rabbani stresses enhancement of Pakistan-Cambodia economic, trade ties

The Chairman said Pakistan was highly grateful to Cambodia for its unwavering support to Pakistan’s candidature of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) full dialogue partnership.

The Chairman Senate reiterated that the Government of Pakistan was looking forward to the visit of the Prime Minister Hun Sen to Pakistan on a convenient date. He would also welcome him in the Senate of Pakistan.

While welcoming the Chairman Senate and his delegation, Prime Minister Hun Sen said it was an honour for Cambodia that the Chairman Senate was paying his third visit to Cambodia for the APA activity. His visits had greatly contributed to the strengthening of our bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Hun Sen recalled that Pakistan-Cambodia were celebrating the 65th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations this year.

The Cambodian prime minister said Pakistan was one of the Countries to recognize Cambodia even before its independence. He said it was important for the two Countries to increase its low-level trade to its optimum.

In the meeting, the two dignitaries agreed that the two Countries would enhance the bilateral ties to further strengthen the parliamentary linkages and increase their existing bilateral low trade volume to its optimal potential.
