ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As the scorching heatwave has claimed 500 lives in Sindh, a spell of monsoon rain has hit various parts of the country and according to sources, it will continue for two more days.
The sources said that monsoon rains have been reported in different parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that Chakwal has received 37 mm of rain, Murree 30, Muzaffarabad 36, Kotli 13, Bahawalpur and Bhakkar 11, Ghari Dupatta 10, Dera Ghazi Khan 9, Dera Ismail Khan 7, Cherat 6, Rawalakot 5, Jauhar Abad and Balakot 4, Saidu 2, Bannu 5, Sibi 22 and Zhob 7 mm.
The PMD also said that the scorching heatwave that has gripped Karachi and parts of Sindh is now weakening. It said that sea breeze has started blowing in and various cities of Sindh including Karachi will also receive rainfall.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the devastating heatwave has risen to 500 across Sindh province especially in Karachi in the last three days. Also when the Muslims across the country are observing the holy month of Ramazan, the issue of increased load shedding continues to remain unresolved despite the federal government’s promises of carrying out minimum load shedding.
