ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that Rangers’ role should not be politicized as they are rendering services for the peace in Karachi.Â
In his address at a press conference in Islamabad on Monday, the minister said that visible reduction has been witnessed in crimes since operation in Karachi and both federal and provincial governments should carry forward the operation for complete restoration of peace in Karachi.
The interior minister said that 31 personnel of Rangers have been martyred and 89 injured during the operation in Karachi and we have to give confidence to Rangers to keep their morale high.
Earlier in the day, the newly-elected Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah signed the summary to extend the Rangers’ stay in Sindh for one year. The special powers of the parliamentary force in the Provincial Capital was also given a 90 days extension. The approved summary will now be sent to the Federal Interior Ministry.
Talking about the verification of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), Chaudhry Nisar said that verification process will continue to purge aliens and illegal people holding CNICs of Pakistan. He said that verification process of Computerized National Identity Cards has been successful so far and over 20 million cards have been verified through SMS.
The Interior Minister said during 15 days, 2.6 million SMS received to National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) for verification of family members while NADRA also sent 1.8 million SMS to people for this purpose.
Nisar said that 22,000 fake CNICs have been identified and cases will be get registered against foreigners who did not withdraw their cards.
Moreover, he said that 100,000 CNICs have been blocked from 2013 to 2016 and over 2,000 passports were cancelled during this period.
The interior minister said that one million SIMs also verified with the cooperation of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
