KARACHI, Pakistan: The Sindh Rangers have taken notice of attacks on media persons after the second journalist was killed in Karachi in less than 24 hours.

Earlier, some unidentified assailants opened fire on the senior journalist Aftab Alam outside his residence at Sector 11-C of North Karachi.

The journalist was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but he succumbed to injuries while being shifted to the hospital.

Talking to media persons, the Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said that three bullets were fired at the face of Aftab Alam, and the one on head proved fatal.

Aftab Alam had previously worked with Geo News and Samaa TV and according to reports, he had recently joined currency exchange business in Karachi.

Meanwhile, the Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed condemned the killing of journalists in terror attacks in Karachi.

In a statement in Islamabad, he expressed deep grief and sorrow on the sad incidents. He also directed the provincial government to play their role to stop violence against media.

The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah also took notice of the murder and directed the police to submit a report on the incident. He ordered for the immediate arrest of those behind the attack.

The Sindh Interior Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal demanded a report about the attack from Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali while ordering immediate arrest of murderers. He further said that such attacks cannot deter the war against terrorism and terrorists in the province.

Aftab Alam’s death comes hours after gunmen attacked a Geo News DSNG van in Bahadurabad area of Karachi, killing senior satellite engineer Arshad Ali Jafri and injuring the driver.
