NationalRao Anwar arrested, five-member JIT formed to probe him

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday formed a five-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe former Senior Superintendent of the Sindh Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar who appeared before the apex court today in connection with Naqeebullah Mehsud Murder Case after almost two-month long self-imposed disappearance.

The JIT will be headed by the Additional IG Aftab Pathan and also consisting of Wali Ullah Dil, Azad Ahmed Khan, Zulfiqar Larik and Dr Rizwan.

The three-member Bench of the Supreme Court led by the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar also ordered to arrest the former SSP Malir Rao Anwar in Naqeebullah Mehsud Murder Case, and cancelled his protective bail.

The Bench also rejected Rao Anwar’s request for inclusion of representatives of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) in the JIT probing Naqeebullah Murder Case. The bench pointed out that ISI and IB have nothing to do with a murder case.

The Court restored bank accounts of Rao Anwar and also asked the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police to ensure the safety of Rao Anwar.

In his ruling, the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said that free and fair investigation must be done. He also said that foolproof security must be provided to Rao Anwar until the completion of investigation.

Talking to Rao Anwar, the Chief Justice said that they trusted him why didn’t he surrender himself. He said that they were constituting a JIT, whatever he (Rao Anwar) wanted to say, say it before the Committee.

“The court has given you the time. You are so brave where have you been hiding?” the Chief Justice remarked.

Meanwhile, talking to media in Islamabad, Naqeebullah Mehsud’s father said that the entire nation raised voice against extra judicial killing of my son.

“I am hopeful that the Supreme Court will punish Rao Anwar. We are thankful to the Supreme Court and hope that we will get justice from here,” he said.
