ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for information Pervaiz Rasheed on Saturday expressed the confidence that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan would respond with the same spirit to the flexibility being demonstrated by the federal government on the issue of recounting in constituencies.
Talking to media representatives in Islamabad on Saturday, the information minister said that by agreeing to the demand of the PTI leader, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) is foregoing its constitutional, legal and moral rights on the issue and giving sacrifice.
The information minister hoped that the PTI would demonstrate the same spirit and allow people of Pakistan to celebrate Independence Day with joy and peace of mind.
Rasheed said that the federal government is showing flexibility and stepping back for the sake of solidarity and unity of the country.
The minister further said that so far the PTI has not approached Islamabad administration to hold rally and sit in on Independence Day in Islamabad. He said that it is responsibility of the PTI leadership to inform the administration about day, timing and venue of the sit-in so that security arrangements are made.
In reply to a question whether the government will display the same flexibility vis-a-vis the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), the minister said that if Dr Tahirul Qadri retracts his provocative statements amounting to inciting his workers on violence then the government can reciprocate.
