ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Security Adviser Lt. General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua on Tuesday expressed his concerns over the ongoing complex war, saying the root causes of extremism and terrorism were not being addressed by the World at large.

In a meeting with a delegation of European Union in Islamabad, the adviser stressed upon the delegation to have better understanding of the environment of Pakistan.

“To mitigate extreme thought we need to introduce a thought which is superior in its character and narrative. Only that could help change the mindset,” the adviser reiterated.

“Pursuing with kinetic approaches only is never enough to curb the menace of extremism,” he said.

The delegation comprised experts from the European Union accompanied by the ambassador (retd) Tariq Osman Hyder.

During the meeting, a project Strengthening Resilience to Violent Extremism (STRIVE) proposed by the European Union with special reference to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came under discussion.

The security adviser appreciated the nature of the group’s endeavour, and said that STRIVE is an idea that can actually work on the root causes of extremism and terrorism.

The members of the delegate requested for support from the government at Federal and Provincial level to devise a formal mechanism for the implementation of the project. The adviser assured of the support of his Division to the delegation.
