ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Secretary Aviation Irfan Ilahi on Friday said the government has allocated Rs 100 billion for Pakistan Airways.

According to a private news channel, he said that the federal government seems to have been finalizing arrangements for the launching of Pakistan Airways as it has allocated Rs 100 billion for the new airline.

“The new airline will be an autonomous body which will have no concern with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA),” he said.

“However, jets may be acquired from PIA, while PIA staffers may also apply for jobs in new airline.”

On the other hand, Chairman of the Privatization Commission, Muhammad Zubair told a Senate committee that 26 percent shares of the PIA are being sold, while its management will also be handed over to the party, which purchase the shares.

He said that a condition may be set for not sparing some employees for as long as two years.
