ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that the SAARC organization can help realize our dreams of alleviating poverty, creating socio-economic parity, empowering women and giving a prosperous, peaceful and progressive future to our region.
In his message on the 34th SAARC Charter Day, the president said that it is a matter of pleasure for me to extend heartiest felicitations to the people and the Member States of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation on commemoration of the Day.
The president said that over the years, the organization has made notable strides in various fields of intra-regional cooperation. He said that the region is blessed with enormous human and natural resources and holds great promise in sustainable economic development in South Asia.
“SAARC Charter Day is the day to renew our commitment to the cherished goals of the Organization,” he said.
Dr. Arif Alvi said that my vision for our region is a dispute-free South Asia, where we jointly fight poverty, illiteracy, disease, malnutrition, and unemployment.
“I sincerely wish all the people of our South Asian region happiness, prosperity, and peace,” the president concluded.
Earlier on Friday, an event was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad to commemorate the 34th anniversary of SAARC and to raise public awareness about the government’s commitment to the SAARC process.
