Sami seeks govt-Taliban cooperation to unearth elements sabotaging peace talks

ISLAMABAD: A key member of the Taliban negotiating team and the Jamiat Uleme-e-Islam Sami (JUI-S) leader Maulana Samiul Haq said on Thursday that both government and the Taliban should enhance mutual cooperation to unearth the elements who were bent upon sabotaging the dialogue process through violence.

Maulana Sami leader made these remarks while talking to media representatives after a meeting of the negotiators representing the federal government and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Thursday.

During the meeting, both the sides reviewed future strategy to carry forward the peace talks.

The prime minister appreciated the contribution of both the committees for the sake of bringing peace. He said that the government prefers the dialogue option for lasting peace.

Maulana Sami later while talking to media termed the meeting with the prime minister as positive and hoped that the dialogue process would bear tangible results soon.

The TTP committee member said that they will go to Waziristan to have further consultations with the Taliban leadership to carry forward the peace talks.
