ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The administration of Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) has decided to privatize the sanitation department in urban and rural areas of the Federal Capital.

The MCI will award a cleanliness contract to a private party on September 28 for garbage disposal in 50 Union Councils (UCs) of Islamabad.

As per a report by Daily 92 News, it will cost the MCI Rs 21 Crore monthly for sanitation arrangements in urban and rural areas of the Capital.

Likewise it has also been decided that the sanitation tax will be increased in the City while a new tax will be imposed in rural areas.

It is pertinent to mention her that sanitation work worth Rs nine million every month is already underway under the contract system in eight Sectors of Islamabad.

While in Sectors wherein sanitation work is being carried out officially, there 1,100 employees are involved in disposal of garbage, and they are being paid Rs 6 Crore as monthly incomes.

An Official of MCI told that 1,100 employees of sanitation department would be transferred to other departments while the whole sanitation system would be privatized.
