Saudi govt directs to set up walls in shops to split men, women

RIYADH: The Saudi government has issued its directives to shops’ owners, in whose properties both males and females are employed, to set up isolating walls to ensure that the two sexes are estranged while they work.

Labour Minister Adel Faqih, with the assistance of Abdullatif al-Sheikh, the head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue & Prevention of Vice, commonly known as ‘Mutawa’ and the religious police, issued the legislation, local media said.

According to the decree, stores must erect barriers not shorter than 1.6 meters to separate men and women employees. Retailers have thirty-day time to install the walls, or risk sanctions.
