ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday directed Additional Attorney General Tariq Khokhar to explain legal position about getting information from UN workers.
A two-member bench of the apex court had ruled that a working group of the United Nations had seen missing person Mudassir Iqbal at a detention center three years back.
When contacted by the Lahore police on the basis of testimony of the working group, a local UN office refused to provide information. The court said that it should be told under which law, the UN workers can refuse to provide such information.
Under what protocol and to what extent, the UN enjoys immunity. “It is strange that the UN is refusing to provide information in a matter, which was identified by its working group,” the court said.
The apex court later put off hearing till Friday.
