ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Tuesday declared the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Fasih Bokhari as illegal, directing the federal government to appoint a new chairman according to the constitution.
A five-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani heard the constitutional petition filed by PML-N member and former opposition leader Chaurdhy Nisar Ali Khan challenging the appointment of Fasih Bokhari as NAB chairman.
Chaudhry Nisar in his petition stated that he as the opposition leader was not consulted during the appointment process which was mandatory under the constitution.
He had pleaded that the President has no discretionary power to appoint chairman NAB.
