ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday rejected the petition of the federal government regarding the appointment of new Inspector General of Islamabad Police (IGP Islamabad).
The petition had been filed by the attorney general Answar Mansoor, pleading the Court to give orders for the appointment of new IG Islamabad, owing to the prevalent law and order situation.
However today a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar rejected the petition.
The Chief Justice said that as said by Prime Minister Imran Khan in his address to the nation on Wednesday evening, the State must fulfill its duty to establish law and order.
Justice Saqib Nisar said that instead of appointing a new IGP, the federal government should give an additional charge to anyone.
It is pertinent to mention here that the federal government had removed the IG Islamabad Police Jan Mohammad over complaints against him especially by the Minister for Science and Technology Azam Swati. However the Supreme Court suspended the government’s orders of removing Jan Mohammad as the IGP Islamabad.
‘We are not judges for Muslims only’ says Chief Justice
Meanwhile in his remarks with reference to the judgement in Asia Bibi Blasphemy Case, the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said that we can sacrifice our lives to protect the honor of our Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) but how can we punish anyone if the case against him/her is not valid.
“We are not judges for Muslims only,” the Chief Justice said.
“I have started the decision with “Kalima, I have also talked about the “Deen/Religion. I have issued the judgment in Urdu so that whole nation can read it. Those who gave verdict on Asia Bibi’s case, Love the Prophet same way as you do,” he remarked.
