ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday rejected the detail explanation submitted by Hamid Khan, the counsel for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, regarding contempt of court case and ordered to submit his written reply again by August 28.
In his detailed reply, Imran Khan had stated that he talked about the subordinate judiciary on July 26. He said he did not talk about the higher judiciary but objected to the returning officers’ performance in his remarks.
Imran Khan said that the word ‘Shameful’ in his July 26 speech was used for Returning Officers (ROs) and not for judiciary.
The Chief Justice remarked that, “Can shameful word be used for lower-courts?”
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising of Justice Azmat Saeed and Justice Khilji Arif was hearing the case.
Earlier, the court gave time till 11:30am to Imran Khan to submit detailed written reply in contempt of court case after which the case hearing was adjourned till 11:30 AM.
It is pertinent to mention that the supreme court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Imran Khan over his “critical and derogatory” remarks against the judiciary and judges of the apex court. It said that Imran Khan apparently had tried to incite hatred against the apex court in one of his interactions with the media.
