SC suspends election tribunal verdict about NA-125, PP-155

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday suspended the decision of an election tribunal for re-polling in Lahore’s NA-125 and PP-155 constituencies.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali gave its verdict in response to a petition filed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Khawaja Saad Rafique against the decision of the election tribunal which annulled results of NA-125 and PP-155 and ordered re-elections in these constituencies.

In his petition, the former Railway Minister maintained that charges of rigging against him have not been proved and the judgment may be overturned.

The apex court in its order also asked the election tribunal to submit the record of elections.

Meanwhile, Saad Rafique said while talking to media in Islamabad that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and its candidate in NA-125 constituency Hamid Khan targeted me but the Supreme Court acquitted me from all charges.

Saad Rafique further said that it was party decision to challenge election tribunal verdict in the Supreme Court.

Last week, the election tribunal in response to a petition filed by Hamid Khan annulled results of the 2013 election held in Lahore’s NA-125 constituency and ordered a re-poll on the seat won by Saad Rafique

The tribunal observed that massive irregularities and negligence were found during polling in NA-125 constituency.
